The opinion was collected by using Theatre for Development (TfD) and Legislative Theatre performances in several places in the country. DHRC-Nepal trained selected PWDs from different districts and they were involved in the Legislative Theatre performances to collect the opinion. During the process direct interaction was held among more than 3000 thousand people. This activity was supported by Embassy of Finland, Kathmandu and UNDP.
The major issues raised during the opinion collection were ensuring political and cultural rights of PWDs including them as fundamental rights, equal participation as other citizens, establishment of constitutional commission for protecting and promoting the PWDs' rights. People who came at the theatre performances pointed out that these rights were never mentioned in any of constitutions existed before.
DHRC-Nepal would like to appeal to all concerned parties to accompany the mission of building new constitution that is being undertaken with active participation of the people. Since this constitution is going to be created by the people in their own initiation first time in the history of Nepal, DHRC urges to include disability rights issues in the new constitution for providing disabled people an opportunity of living independent life.
Those CA members who were representing different Constitution Drafting Committee gave their words for studying these views carefully and including them in new constitution as far as possible.
