Welcome to DHRC-Nepal

Shushila using her feet to work with computer Whilst the world has moved into the 21st Century, in Nepal, the situation for disabled people is still as it was in the 18th Century. Because of people’s attitudes, disabled people are not always accepted in their families, nor as citizens of Nepal.

Furthermore, organizations working for the rights of other disadvantaged groups ignore the plight of people with disabilities, indicating that their views and rights should be dealt with separately. Unlike many other organizations that work to relieve the physical aspects of disability, DHRC works to empower disabled people to demand what is legally their right, but in a country like Nepal it is particularly difficult to change peoples attitudes.

DHRC Nepal is a small charity founded in January 2000 by a group of young disabled people. Our activities include a weekly radio program for disabled Nepalese people, publication of a monthly journal, provision of training programs to the disabled Nepalese community and running micro-credit scheme to help disabled Nepalese citizens start small businesses to support themselves and their families.
